Vellore, Katpadi railway station is placed at katpadi junction in Vellore city and it is the largest junction in the district. In southern railway, it is one of the important and busiest station.The station is chennai division and located on Chennai-Bangalore and Villupuram - Tirupati lines.This is one of the top 10 Revenue Railway Stations in Tamil Nadu. Bearing the station code KPD, it has four direction routes: northeast direction to Chennai, northwest to Andhra Pradesh and North India, southwest towards Coimbatore, Karnataka and Kerala and south to Kanyakumari, Madurai.
The station is served by 5 platforms, of which Platforms 1 to 3 primarily serve trains bound to Chennai, Bangalore, Coimbatore and Kerala directions and platforms 4 & 5 primarily serve trains bound to Vellore Cantonment & South Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. It is the prestigious railway junction because Chennai-bangalore shatabdi express stops here, this is the only junction shatabdi stops between Chennai-bangalore. And also except Mysore Shatabdi and Chennai-Kovai non-stop duronto exp, all super fast trains stops here.
